This year will be my 5th year teaching English at DeSoto HS. I've been happily married since 2009, and we have the pleasure of raising a daughter, a son, and another son who will arrive in September of 2018!

I enjoy going camping, hiking, geocaching, and fishing (which is a great excuse for reading) with my family whenever I get the chance, usually in the cooler weather though. :) I also greatly enjoy food, and trying new foods.

2nd/6th period 9:09 - 10:41
3rd/7th period 10:48 - 1:05* *I have 3rd period conference period

Connect With Me!

Students will be required to sign up for the following technological resources. Parents/Guardians have the option to join right along with them!

Edmodo:
This free website works like social media for education. I have set up a webpage for each class period in which I can assign work complete with instructions and any necessary attachments, and the cool thing is that students can turn it in directly on their class period's page. They will be able to receive feedback and their grade from me immediately after I grade it on edmodo. To sign up, students (and parents if you like) will need to follow these instructions:

1. Go to edmodo.com
2. Click "I'm a student"
3. Enter information requested (USE YOUR GOVERNMENT NAMES, NO NICKNAMES IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO RECEIVE CREDIT)
The Class or Group Code will be different depending on your child's class period.
1st period code: 7g9j3h
2nd period code: w35ve8
4th period code: 7zh893
5th period code: m3guk2
6th period code: pbj8jk
7th period code: 582hhs
8th period code: jw2ccq

4. Once signed up, you will have access to your class period's page. You'll be able to see the posts of assignments I've made, any grades you have for assignments, and any feedback I've given you on a certain assignment. No one else will be able to read your assignment submissions except myself and/or a substitute.

*Be mindful of any submissions or posts that you make on our class' edmodo. Inappropriate use of this resource will result in the discrediting of your grade and/or a behavioral consequence.

Remind
This is a free text messaging application that students will be required to sign up for on their cell phones. It will allow me to send quick text message reminders for assignments and/or tests. The cool thing is I will not have access to the students' cell phone number and the students will not have access to my cell phone number. As a parent/guardian, feel free to sign up for it yourself, and you will receive everything your student receives from me. Students will also be allowed to send me inquiries, and I will be able to send responses, and I will be sure to reply them or to you ASAP, any hour that I'm awake. I have created a Remind account for each of my class periods. To sign up, students (and parents if you so choose) will need to follow these instructions:

1. Open your internet browser on your cell phone and go to remind.com
2. Enter your cell phone number and click "continue"
3. Enter the 4 digit code sent to your cell phone number
4. Enter your the necessary information ***USE YOUR GOVERNMENT NAME, NO NICKNAMES IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO RECEIVE CREDIT, ALSO USE A PASSWORD THAT YOU WILL REMEMBER***
5. Click "complete sign up" and "accept" the user agreement
6. Click "I'm a student" ***At this point, you can choose to download the app, but that is OPTIONAL. You will still receive text message reminders from me without downloading the application.***
7. Enter the class code (which is different for every class period) and click "join"
1st period code: 1becerra
2nd period code: 2becerra
4th period code: 4becerra
5th period code: 5becerra
6th period code: 6becerra
7th period code: 7becerra
8th period code: 8becerra

8. Once signed up, you will be able to receive a text message reminder from me through Remind. You'll have the option to save the number so you know any future texts from it will be for Mrs. B's English IV class at DHS. You may also have the option to respond.

*One of your first assignments will require you to respond to my remind text using the app
*Be mindful of what you send through this application. Inappropriate use of this resource will result in a behavioral consequence.
